Agriculture generates huge amounts of organic waste, but what if this waste could become a valuable resource? In Brazil, where agriculture and biogas production are rapidly growing, chicken manure offers an exciting opportunity to create renewable energy and, beyond that, new value for agriculture. The challenge is to unlock the potential of the digestate left behind after biogas production. You will use Santo Antonio do Monte, Minas Gerais, Brazil as your base. Together with InovaBiogas, you will explore how chicken-manure digestate can be transformed into high-quality solid and liquid biofertilizers, biostimulants and other higher-value products. You will investigate how to overcome technical and practical challenges, including managing high nitrogen levels. But it's not just about better chemistry, it's about building a more profitable, circular, and sustainable agricultural system. This challenge though is more than a project; it is an international summer-school experience in Brazil. You will work in interdisciplinary teams, earn academic credits and experience the challenge first-hand during a face-to-face week in Minas Gerais, working directly with InovaBiogas, researchers and other stakeholders. And since you'll already be there, why not make the most of it? Extend your stay before or after the F2F week to explore Minas Gerais and beyond, discovering Brazil's landscapes and culture while turning academic learning into an unforgettable international experience. Join us in Brazil: earn credits, solve a real-world challenge, meet an international community and discover a country along the way.
These are the teachers you'll work with on the challenge.

Identify and analyse context-specific challenges related to organic waste, energy and nutrient management in an international setting outside Europe
Analyse how European environmental, technical, economic, institutional, cultural and societal conditions can benefit and influence the feasibility and design of biogas and biofertilizer solutions in international markets
Critically evaluate which elements of biogas solutions developed in Sweden or Europe can be transferred, which require contextual adaptation, and which are unsuitable for a specific international setting.
Develop context-appropriate biogas and biofertilizer solutions by integrating international resources, infrastructure, stakeholder priorities, governance conditions and technological capabilities
